Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores today announced it will close its North Wales, PA store located at 467 Sumneytown Pike and also its GIANT Pharmacy located at 107 South Main Street in North Wales on January 24, 2015.

“This was a difficult decision, and it is the result of our ongoing assessment of the operating performance of our stores,” said Tom Lenkevich, GIANT president. “We are always evaluating our store base with the goal to ensure we have the right number of stores to serve our customers in the right locations. We encourage our shoppers to shop with us at another nearby GIANT location.”

All 79 impacted associates will be offered positions in surrounding stores.

The North Wales GIANT on Sumneytown Pike is 39 years old with less than 33,000 square feet of sales area. North Wales customers can shop at one of GIANT’s nearby stores including 1201 Knapp Road in North Wales/Montgomeryville (2.1 miles away), 1121 Bethlehem Pike in Spring House (3.2 miles away) or 1540 Cowpath Road in Hatfield (4.3 miles away).

GIANT currently has no plans to close any other stores. The North Wales GIANT and nearby Pharmacy were acquired from Safeway in 2012.
