Adds 275 jobs to the local economy

Havertown, PA – GIANT Food Stores today announced that the doors of its brand new Havertown store located at 116 W. Township Line Road will open on Wednesday, April 17 at 8:00 a.m. The store features GIANT’s latest prototype and new décor package inside and the convenience of an on-site fuel station. Approximately 275 full and part time jobs were created to drive local economic growth.

Wayne Kofroth has been appointed store manager of the new 76,000 square foot GIANT, which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We’re so happy to be part of the Havertown community, and I am proud of my team who are excited and ready to provide superb service, quality, and value to our new Havertown customers,” said Wayne Kofroth. “For the past 90 years, GIANT has been known for being a great place to shop, a great place to work, and a great neighbor and we’ll continue these traditions in Havertown.”

One-stop shopping in an innovative store layout

When customers walk through the doors of the new store they will take in the vast, perishables hall that includes GIANT’s signature produce, deli, meat, seafood, and bakery departments all complemented by a vibrant décor package.

Havertown customers will also find a variety of new features and amenities both in-store and out. The Beer Garden and Eatery will offer customers a wide variety of eat-in and take-out selections including wraps, salads, subs and Panini sandwiches. GIANT was granted a restaurant liquor license from the Pennsylvanian Liquor Control Board and plans to offer a selection of domestic and imports with an emphasis on craft and specialty beers.

The store includes an on-site fuel station where customers can shop, pump and save with GIANT’s Gas Extra Rewards program. For every $100 spent on groceries at any GIANT using a Bonuscard, customers will receive ten cents off per gallon of gas when they fill up as part of the Gas Extra Rewards program.

Commitment to Health and Wellness

Emphasizing GIANT’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness, customers will find an assortment of natural and organic products in a dedicated section called Nature’s Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections.

GIANT’s exclusive Healthy IdeasTM product labeling system includes thousands of GIANT’s own brand and national brand perishable and nonperishable products that feature the blue and green Healthy Ideas shelf tags that help customers identify healthy options as they shop the aisles. Foods labeled with the Healthy Ideas symbol include single ingredient fruits, vegetables and 100% fruit juice, some canned, frozen and dried fruits, certain breads and meats, cereals, rice and pasta, low fat dairy products and some snack foods.

Energy Saving Features

The Havertown GIANT, which is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting will be used in many areas of the store, significantly reducing energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced the traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized.
