MARTIN’S to present Richmond SPCA donation of $10,000

Richmond, VA – With all stores reporting, MARTIN’S Food Markets customers overwhelming chose dogs over cats as their favorite pet with a 63% majority of the votes. On May 4, customers at all greater Richmond MARTIN’S locations had an opportunity to donate $1 at the checkout to benefit Richmond SPCA, and in doing so, could specify if they preferred cats or dogs. MARTIN’S also contributed to the one-day campaign and a total donation of $10,000 will be presented to Richmond SPCA.

The funds will go toward the purchase of a new Richmond SPCA transfer van. This van will transport homeless dogs and cats from local animal control shelters to the care and support of the Richmond SPCA.

With this effort, MARTIN’S continues its strong support of the Richmond SPCA’s humane efforts. In 2012, MARTIN’S donated its own Companion brand pet food in the amount of $39,964.
