MARTIN’S FOOD MARKETS TO CLOSE STAPLES MILL STORE
Richmond, VA – MARTIN’S Food Markets today announced it will close its store located at 7129 Staples Mill Road, Richmond on Friday, July 11.
“This difficult decision was made as the result of our ongoing assessment of the operating performance of our stores,” said Tom Lenkevich, MARTIN’S president. “We are always evaluating our store base and while the Staples Mill store team worked very hard, the store has not achieved performance goals. We thank our Staples Mill associates for their dedication and encourage customers to continue to shop with us at another nearby MARTIN’S.”
The Staples Mill MARTIN’S is approximately 42 years old and was acquired from Ukrop’s in 2010. Staples Mill customers are encouraged to shop at one of MARTIN’S other stores nearby, including the three stores located approximately three and a half miles away at 10250 Staples Mill Road in Glen Allen, 7035 Three Chopt Road in Richmond, and 5700 Brook Run Road in Richmond. Full-time associates will have the opportunity to be placed in a full-time position at a nearby store. Part-time associates will be offered positions at nearby stores.
“MARTIN’S continues to operate 22 stores within the greater Richmond market and remains committed to investing in this market,” continued Lenkevich. “We are looking forward to opening another new state-of-the-art MARTIN’S store next year offering our Richmond area customers an even better place to shop.”
MARTIN’S will replace its current Bermuda Square store located at 12601 Jefferson Davis Highway in Chester with a new store in the same shopping center as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the entire complex. This new 66,500 square foot store will open in 2016.
