New features include an in-store nutritionist, Starbucks, and fuel station

Midlothian, VA – MARTIN’S Food Markets today announced that the doors of its brand new store located at 200 Charter Colony Parkway in Midlothian will open on Friday, November 7 at 8:00 a.m. The store, which features MARTIN’S latest prototype, replaces the grocer’s current Sycamore Square store located a half-mile away at 1220 Sycamore Square in Midlothian. Approximately 65 additional jobs were created to staff the new location, bringing the total number of Midlothian store associates to 175.

Louis Luscher has been appointed store manager of the new 74,000 square foot MARTIN’S, which will operate 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, seven days a week. The store includes an on-site fuel station where customers can shop, pump and save with MARTIN’S fuelperks! program.

“It’s an exciting time for all of us at MARTIN’S as we look forward to opening our first brand new store in the Richmond market,” said Luscher.

Customers will find a variety of new features and amenities at the new location. When customers walk through the doors of the new store they will take in the vast, fresh hall that includes MARTIN’S signature produce, deli, meat, seafood, and bakery departments all complemented by a warm and inviting décor package.

For coffee lovers, a Starbucks coffee bar has been added adjacent to the produce department. Customers can enjoy a number of exceptional products at Starbucks including coffee, handcrafted beverages, and merchandise in the store or on the go.

Focus on healthy lifestyles

Emphasizing MARTIN’S ongoing commitment to making healthy living choices easy, Caroline Roessler, MS, RDN has joined the company as an in-store nutritionist at the new Midlothian store. With her Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and experience as an instructor and nutrition counselor, Roessler brings knowledge of nutrition for diabetes, cancer, and pediatrics to her role. She will be available to assist customers with questions on healthy eating while they shop, provide one-on-one nutrition consultations, teach health related classes, and conduct Kid Healthy Ideas store tours. In addition, Roessler will also participate in future health related events throughout the surrounding Midlothian community.

Health and wellness is a focus throughout the store as customers will find a unique assortment of natural and organic products in a designated section called Nature’s Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections.

MARTIN’S exclusive Healthy IdeasTM product labeling system includes thousands of MARTIN’S own brand and national brand perishable and nonperishable products that feature the blue and green Healthy Ideas shelf tags that help customers identify healthy options as they shop the aisles. Foods labeled with the Healthy IdeasTM symbol include single ingredient fruits, vegetables and 100% fruit juice, some canned, frozen and dried fruits, certain breads and meats, cereals, rice and pasta, low fat dairy products and some snack foods.

The MARTIN’S Pharmacy has expert pharmacists available seven days a week to fill prescriptions and offer expert advice. As partners in good health, MARTIN’S pharmacists can administer vaccines, suggest the right over-the-counter medications and help manage prescriptions.

“For many of our customers, healthy choices begin at the supermarket, which is why we strive to provide the choices and products our customers are looking for,” said Luscher.

MARTIN’S is also partnering with Bon Secours to offer its first in-store health clinic in the greater Richmond community. The clinic provides customers with convenient and affordable care from Bon Secours health professionals for the treatment of a variety of common illnesses and preventative health care options. No appointment is necessary, and Bon Secours accepts most insurances and office visit co-pays. The clinic will open to customers by the end of the year.

The store includes an on-site fuel station where customers can shop, pump and save with MARTIN’S fuelperks! program. For every $100 spent on groceries at any MARTIN’S using a Bonuscard, customers will receive ten cents off per gallon of gas when they fill up as part of the fuelperks! program.

Technology and Energy Saving Features

The award-winning Shopping Solutions kiosks, which are conveniently located throughout the store, enable customers to use the interactive touch-screen to check personalized BonusCard savings offers, print off coupons, locate an item in the store, and place a deli or Great Entertaining party tray order. Customers also have more than 2,500 tasty recipes at their fingertips that can be printed directly from the Shopping Solutions kiosks.

The new Midlothian MARTIN’S, which is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting will be used in many areas of the store, significantly reducing energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced the traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized.
