Harrisburg, PA – Nabisco and GIANT Food Stores joined forces today to support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in their efforts to provide meals this holiday season. At 11:00 a.m. this morning representatives from both organizations were on hand to donate more than 6,700 pounds of Nabisco food items and volunteer their time to sort the donated goods and assist with holiday meal preparation at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

1 in 7 residents of Pennsylvania struggle with hunger on a daily basis, and 1 in 5 children in the Commonwealth may not know where their next meal is coming from. In the 27 counties served by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, more than 55,000 people are requesting food assistance each week.

“The Food Bank is seeing record numbers of people in need of help this holiday season,” said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “This generous donation by Nabisco and GIANT will help the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank provide hundreds of meals to central PA families, making their holiday season a little brighter.”

“We are grateful to continue this partnership with Giant and Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to help fight hunger in our local communities,” said Daniel Shiner, customer business lead, Nabisco. “The 12 pallets of Nabisco food products we’ve donated are the result of a joint effort across GIANT Food Stores. This is an important part of our joint mission and a collective effort to support those with food needs during the holidays and throughout the year.”

“We are proud to partner with Nabisco to raise more awareness in support of hunger relief efforts, particularly during the holidays,” said John MacDonald, director of marketing & external communications, GIANT Food Stores. “With today’s generous donation, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank can help brighten the holiday season for even more local families struggling to make ends meet.”

Earlier this month, GIANT helped kick off the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s annual turkey drive with a donation of 1,000 turkeys this holiday season.
