GIANT FOOD STORES DONATES $9,000 TO PHILABUNDANCE

Grocer celebrating 90 years of living and giving in the local communities they serve

Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores is celebrating its 90th anniversary by expanding the company’s “Living Here, Giving Here” community support program with 90 Days of Giving to local food bank partners and throughout the communities they serve. GIANT recently recognized Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, with a special $9,000 donation to provide hunger relief throughout the community.

“Since GIANT was founded in 1923, our commitment to being a good neighbor has been unwavering,” said Rick Herring, president. “We are proud to be a leader in the fight against hunger, raising millions of dollars and donating thousands of pounds of food for hunger relief throughout our 90 year history. No one in the communities we serve should go hungry, and we will continue to support Philabundance on future efforts to eradicate hunger.”

Since 2005, GIANT has donated more than $150 million in combined cash and product donations throughout the markets they serve, focused on hunger relief efforts, improving the quality of life for children and building healthier communities.

“Philabundance truly values Giant’s commitment to fight hunger and the longstanding partnership with us, which has resulted in $603,624 over the past 5 years. They have donated everything from food and turkeys to funds and gift cards all for families struggling to make ends-meet,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance. “This donation of $9,000 dollars will provide 18,000 meals for those families in need in the Delaware Valley and we can’t thank Giant enough for all they do in the fight against hunger.”

Also as part of GIANT’s 90 Days of Giving, each of the company’s 200 stores conducted at least one random act of kindness. These acts, which focused on efforts to help eradicate hunger or improved the lives of children, varied by community.
