Javitch buys a store in Lewistown, PA and names it the GIANT Food Shopping Center. This store offers customers dry goods and perishable food under one roof, a new concept at the time.
GIANT begins to move beyond city locations, leading to a path of steady suburban growth.
Our company’s growth picks up speed with the purchase of the MARTIN’S chain in Hagerstown, MD.
